GardenVilla RufoloRufolo merchant family complex; medieval architectural synthesis; terraced gardens renewed by Francis Nevile Reid; Wagner and Parsifal association; Ravello Festival originsVilla Rufolo is a thirteenth-century Ravello complex associated with the Rufolo merchant family. Its medieval core combines Arab, Byzantine and local architectural and decorative traditions with later changes. Francis Nevile Reid restored the site and remade its terraced gardens in the nineteenth century. Richard Wagner’s visit in May 1880 became central to the cultural association with Parsifal, and the first Ravello Festival concerts were held here in 1953.Plan the visitMore nearby
