Chianti Classico is a Tuscan red wine with distinct Riserva and Gran Selezione maturation requirements.
Chianti Classico’s identity is rooted in a defined Tuscan hill landscape.
Sangiovese leads Chianti Classico’s grape base. The landscape lies between Florence and Siena, with hills whose soils include galestro, alberese and fine calcareous sandstone. Greve, Radda, Gaiole and Castellina are useful names to learn as you explore the region’s bottles and villages. Together they give the wine’s local geography a more tangible shape.
Aging is counted from January 1 of the year after the harvest.

The zone includes all of Greve in Chianti, Radda in Chianti, Gaiole in Chianti and Castellina in Chianti, together with delimited portions of neighboring municipalities in the Florence and Siena areas.
