Prugnolo Gentile in the Sienese hills

Montepulciano’s hills give Sangiovese a local name and a particular home.

In Montepulciano, Sangiovese is known as Prugnolo Gentile and forms the main grape base of Vino Nobile. The vineyards lie on hills whose soils include marine sands and clays. The sandy deposits are especially prominent at higher elevations, while other slopes descend towards the Valdichiana. This is a wine rooted in the Tuscan town’s hillside territory.
