Locorotondo is a historic urban core in the Valle d'Itria, not a single monument. The municipality links its name to the circular form of the historic centre; its civic building sits within that core. The separate wine designation named Locorotondo DOC is not an architectural feature of this district record.1

The municipal description identifies the core's white streets and its cummerse: local houses with pitched roofs made with chiancarelle. Regional material likewise describes a hilltop cluster of white houses and cummerse. This is a district-scale character, not evidence that every white building or sloping roof has the same age, construction history or public access.1,2

A regional historic-village page places the formation of the ancient centre around the year 1000, following the natural form of the hilltop. This is a useful high-level origin account, not a substitute for archaeological, documentary and fabric-by-fabric research into the district's development.2
