South Tyrol's oldest town, known in German as Brixen, set where two valleys meet beneath the vineyards of the Isarco.
For centuries a prince-bishop's seat, it gathers an arcaded medieval centre, a baroque cathedral with a frescoed cloister, and a much-loved Christmas market.
