Villa Romana del Casale is itself a UNESCO World Heritage property, inscribed in 1997 as property 832 under criteria (i), (ii) and (iii). The listed core is 8.92 hectares with a 10.37-hectare buffer zone. The status belongs to the defined villa property, not to every Roman remain or mosaic in Piazza Armerina.1
