The theatre forms part of Volterra's Vallebuona archaeological area, which also includes remains of a fourth-century bath building. The Enrico Fiumi acropolis park is a separate archaeological entity. Current access and conservation conditions require a dated official check.

The Ministry of Culture identifies the theatre as Augustan-period and distinguishes its Vallebuona context from Volterra's separate Etruscan acropolis area.

The Roman Theatre of Volterra is part of the Vallebuona archaeological area in Volterra.1
