Maserati GranTurismo (2023 generation)

Maserati’s long-distance coupé, introduced in 2022, with special editions announced for Milan Design Week 2023

Maserati’s 2022 GranTurismo pairs a long-bonnet profile with a modular architecture and three launch branches: Modena, Trofeo and electric Folgore.

A new chapter in a long lineage

In its 3 October 2022 release, Maserati presented the new GranTurismo, placing it in a touring lineage that reaches back to the A6 1500. The first GranTurismo appeared in 2007. The renewed GranTurismo coupé dates to 2022; its open-top companion, GranCabrio, debuted on 29 February 2024.1,2

The name before this generation

The previous GranTurismo made its worldwide debut at the Geneva Auto Show in 2007. Maserati credited Pininfarina with its styling and described space for up to four people. That earlier car brought the GranTurismo name into Maserati’s modern range.3

A long bonnet, a continuous profile

The new GranTurismo carries its predecessor’s proportions forward: a long bonnet, four pronounced fenders and a roofline that falls toward the Trident-marked rear pillar. The continuous profile gives the coupé a clear family resemblance across the two generations.1

One architecture, two kinds of power

Work on the vehicle architecture began in 2017. The mixed-material body combines aluminium and magnesium with high-performance steel, while the modular platform was conceived to accommodate petrol and electric powertrains with limited adaptation. That shared foundation is the engineering idea behind the generation’s different characters.1

Modena, Trofeo and Folgore

At launch, Modena and Trofeo formed the petrol side of the range, both using Maserati’s Nettuno V6; Trofeo was the higher-output version. Folgore took a different route as a battery-electric GranTurismo, built around an 800-volt system and three motors. The names describe distinct powertrain branches, not interchangeable trim badges.1

A one-off moment in Milan

Ahead of Milan Design Week 2023, Maserati announced the GranTurismo One Off Prisma and Luce alongside the limited PrimaSerie 75th Anniversary. Prisma drew on the car’s history for its many-coloured finish; Luce combined a mirror-like surface with a laser-etched pattern. The two Fuoriserie one-offs and the anniversary edition gave the Design Week programme its own distinct selection.4

Folgore’s battery holds 92.5 kWh nominally, with 83 kWh usable. Its T-bone arrangement places modules mainly around the centre tunnel rather than beneath the seats, preserving a low seating position. Motor ratings, battery capacity and power delivered to the wheels describe different things; adding the three motor ratings does not establish the car’s sustained wheel output.1
