A bark-green Bottega Veneta Small Andiamo bag with a finished woven-leather surface.

The leather-strip weave Bottega Veneta introduced as its signature in 1975, with variations in materials, treatments, colour and structure.

Leather strips become a signature

Intrecciato interlaces narrow strips of leather into a continuous woven surface. Bottega Veneta dates its use as a house signature to 1975. The crossing strips create the texture that gives this particular house technique its name.1,2

How the weave changes

The crossing pattern can shift in scale and structure. Materials, treatments, colour, shape and size vary; a closely spaced weave and a broad-strip version can belong to the same technique while presenting different surfaces.1

Vicenza and the 1975 date

Bottega Veneta was founded in Vicenza in 1966. Intrecciato was introduced in 1975, within the house’s first decade. The dates connect the weave to the maker’s early Veneto history.2
