Founded in Vicenza in 1966, Bottega Veneta made leather craft central to its identity. Its Intrecciato weave, introduced in 1975, gives the house a recognisable surface without a prominent logo. The name itself points to a collective workshop, an idea the brand continues to explore through art and design.

A Vicenza beginning

Bottega Veneta began in Vicenza in 1966, when Renzo Zengiaro and Michele Taddei founded the house. That origin anchors a design story built around leather goods and the work of many hands.1

A weave becomes a signature

Introduced in 1975, Intrecciato weaves strips of leather, known as fettucce, into a distinctive surface. Materials, treatments and weaving methods vary within the technique, as do colour, shape and scale.1,2

Recognition without a prominent logo

The early bags were soft and supple, without heavy hardware or a logo. In 1975, the woven Intrecciato and the line “When Your Own Initials are Enough” gave this quiet approach a lasting visual and verbal identity.1
