Aglianico on an extinct volcano
Volcanic soil, altitude and one grape make a red with real grip.
The rules are simple: the wine must come from Aglianico alone, grown on hillsides of mostly volcanic origin between 200 and 700 metres. The result is a dark, structured red with firm tannins and lively acidity, made in a still version and as a sparkling wine. Producers who want a longer-aged wine can move up to the separate Superiore DOCG.
