Wine from the land around the Sassi

The DOC takes in the whole province of Matera, from the Murgia plateau to the Ionian coast.

The classic red blends at least 60% Sangiovese with at least 30% Primitivo. Primitivo also stands alone, as a dry wine and a passito. Moro is the unusual one, a red led by Cabernet Sauvignon with Primitivo and Merlot. The whites are Greco and a Malvasia bianca di Basilicata bianco, which also makes a passito and a sparkling wine.

Moro Riserva

Moro Riserva is released only after 36 months of maturation, at least 24 of them in cask.

Basilicata

The whole province of Matera

There are no subzones: every vineyard within the administrative boundary of Matera province can qualify.
