Bicicletta

A lighter alternative to the Americano using white wine instead of vermouth. Perfect for afternoon aperitivo.

Campari and still white wine, with soda only as a splash: this is the drink for when a spritz feels too sweet and a Negroni too strong. The wine is the choice that matters, so use a dry, neutral Italian white you would happily drink on its own, well chilled. Two parts wine to one of Campari keeps it light enough for the early evening.

Lombardy

The Bicicletta is a northern Italian café aperitivo, and the story attached to its name is about older men wobbling home on their bicycles after one glass too many. It belongs to the late afternoon, when a glass of white wine with a shot of bitter is all the aperitivo you need.
