Masino Castle crowns a morainic hill at the edge of the Ivrea plain, in the village of Caravino, and was held for the best part of a thousand years by the Valperga di Masino family, who claimed descent from Arduin, Italy’s first king.

The keep is documented from 1070, and later generations turned the fortress into a noble residence with frescoed rooms, a library and eighteenth-century apartments. Around it spreads a landscaped park with a hornbeam labyrinth of about 1,400 trees, one of the largest in Italy. FAI, Italy’s national trust, has cared for the castle since 1988, and the park makes it an easy half-day out from Turin or Milan.

Getting there
By car from Turin (A5, Scarmagno exit) or Milan (A4/A5, Albiano exit); free parking within the park. There is no convenient public transport to the castle, so a car or taxi from Ivrea is the practical choice.
Accessibility
Partially accessible. The ticket office is reachable by car, but the castle entrance has four steps and the upper floors are only reached by stairs; ground-floor restrooms are accessible. Park paths are gravel; folding chairs are available on request.

Ticket covers castle, park and labyrinth. Park and labyrinth only is €10. Ages 6 to 18 and students to 25 pay €8 (castle and park); free under 6 and for FAI members. A guided castle tour is €21. Family package available. Last updated September 2026. Prices change, so check the official site before you go.

Wear flat shoes: the park paths are gravel, and the labyrinth is easier when dry. Allow time for the park after the castle rather than the other way round, since the tour groups fill the rooms first.
