Ivrea, industrial city of the 20th century is a UNESCO World Heritage property in Piedmont, inscribed in 2018 under criterion (iv). It is a defined industrial and socio-cultural ensemble, not a synonym for the whole municipality of Ivrea.1,2

The property developed as the testing ground for Olivetti, founded in 1908 by Camillo Olivetti. The company produced typewriters, mechanical calculators and office computers.1,2

The property includes a large factory alongside buildings for administration and social services, plus residential units. Most of this architectural ensemble was designed between the 1930s and 1960s by leading Italian urban planners and architects.1

UNESCO identifies the ensemble with the ideas of the Community Movement (Movimento Comunità), expressing a modern relationship between industrial production, architecture and social provision.1

The World Heritage property covers 52.37 hectares across the municipalities of Ivrea and Banchette, with a 278.32-hectare buffer zone. A minor boundary modification was inscribed in 2021.1
