Trentino Christmas Markets: Choose the Right Days

Trento, Rovereto, Levico, Arco, Pergine and Canale di Tenno: choose your market days, understand holiday openings and plan transport for the 2026–27 season.

For a first Christmas-market trip in Trentino, begin with Trento and add one area at a time. Rovereto gives you another city centre; Levico Terme and Pergine take you into Valsugana; Arco and Canale di Tenno make a separate Garda-side outing. The useful question is not how many markets fit on a map, but which are open on the day you can reach them and still get back comfortably.

This guide covers those six places for the 2026–27 season. It keeps their calendars separate: a date range does not mean stalls open every day, and a food square can keep different hours from a craft market. For a wider journey, compare the Italian Christmas markets and the separate South Tyrol train itinerary.

Choose the dates before the route

Trento is the simplest starting point if your visit falls on a weekday. Canale di Tenno has ten specific market days; Levico has selected Advent openings before its daily period after Christmas. Pergine’s Friday food programme is different from the opening of its craft stalls. Check the exact day before choosing accommodation around a particular market.

Trento and Rovereto: start with the city centres

In Trento, make time for both market squares rather than stopping at the first row of huts. The Christmas Day afternoon opening is a useful exception to the closures found elsewhere, but it is not a promise that museums, shops or restaurants share those hours. Check each additional stop separately.

Rovereto has a confirmed season from 20 November to 6 January. Leave the detailed evening programme open until its current schedule is published. A city visit can still be planned around the centre, but do not book a particular show or reuse a previous season’s map as if it were this year’s final arrangement.

Treat the two cities as the first pair to consider, not a race to finish both. Start with the one that best fits your arrival and return journey. If you stay into the evening, check the last useful connection before settling down for food, and leave room for the walk back to your departure point.

Levico Terme and Pergine: two different calendars

At Levico, the market occupies the Parco Secolare degli Asburgo. In Advent it opens on 21–22 and 27–29 November, then 4–8, 11–13, 18–20 and 24 December. Daily opening begins on 26 December and continues to 6 January. The usual hours are 10:00–19:00, extended to 20:30 on 5–7 December.

Pergine’s 2026 market season begins on 14 November, with market weekends through 27 December and a separate New Year event on 31 December. The craft stalls close on Fridays and on 31 December; the food programme has its own schedule. Follow the current dated programme when choosing between a shopping visit and a Friday evening in the food square.

Do not assume that a Friday food event makes every stall available, or that the overall event window means uninterrupted daily opening. Choose the purpose of each visit first. If you want to combine Pergine and Levico, allow time to reach each actual market setting from your transport stop rather than comparing station names alone.

Arco and Canale di Tenno: a separate outing

Arco’s season spans 13 November to 6 January, with selected openings before Christmas and daily opening from 26 December. Its dated calendar matters: Saturday evenings and individual holidays do not all share the same closing time. Keep the official calendar to hand rather than planning the return around a single general hour.

Canale di Tenno is the shorter Advent choice. Its ten market days finish on 20 December, and its stalls open 09:30–18:00 on those dates. The stone lanes, courtyards and cellars form a different setting from a city-square market. Allow time to walk through the village, and check current access and any shuttle arrangements before choosing a route.

Keep Arco and Canale together as a Garda-side plan if their calendars suit your stay. Neither is a stop to add automatically after a full Valsugana day. For a short visit, one unhurried market and a dependable return journey are more useful than three names crossed off a list.

Transport and the Guest Card

The Trentino Guest Card covers specified provincial public transport, including regional rail routes; it does not cover EC, IC, express or high-speed trains simply because they pass through the same stations. Ask your accommodation how to obtain and activate the card, and validate each journey through Mio Trentino or with the transport card as directed.

Check each outward and return connection for the actual date. A card supplies access under its conditions, not a guaranteed service or reserved seat. Do not assume that the Trentino card and South Tyrol’s Guest Pass are interchangeable. Allow separate time for the journey from a rail or bus stop to the market entrance.

Questions before booking

Are all six markets open every day?

No. Canale has ten specified dates, Levico has selected Advent days, and Arco and Pergine also require a day-by-day check. Keep the market calendar beside the transport planner when choosing your stay.

Is Christmas Day a normal market day?

No. Trento has a confirmed 16:00–20:00 opening on 25 December, while other markets and visitor services have their own closures. Do not carry one place’s exception over to the rest of the route.

How many should I plan in one day?

Begin with one. Add a second only when its opening, transfer and return journey work for your date. The regional Christmas guide helps place the trip within a longer Italian holiday.
