Ferragamo Hug

An asymmetric silhouette, folded sides and a distinctive Gancini closure

Explore the Hug’s folded sides and Gancini closures, the braided handle in newer designs, and three named expressions of the family.

The essentials

Model family
Hug

A name for a close gesture

Ferragamo links the name Hug to an embrace, an expression of intimacy and warmth. The house presents the bag as a contemporary accessory.1

Folded sides, Gancini closure

Folding side panels shape the asymmetrical silhouette and close with signature Gancini fastenings. The folded sides and clasp are the defining design cues to look for across the Hug family.1

A woven handle in newer designs

In the newer Hug designs highlighted by Ferragamo, artisans handweave a braided handle to create an even pattern.1

Three named expressions

Ferragamo’s Hug collection includes Soft Hug, East-West Hug and Hug XS. These labels help distinguish the line’s different expressions. For an exact comparison of dimensions and materials, consult the listing for the specific bag.1,2,3,4

Choose by the exact configuration

When comparing the Hug with its named expressions, look at how the folded sides meet the Gancini fastening, then consider whether the handle or strap arrangement suits how you plan to carry it.1,2,3,4

Three bags, not three abstract size labels

The Hug family is easier to understand when each name is attached to one product code. The three examples below change more than size: Soft L has a single handle and a divided interior, East-West stretches horizontally beneath a longer handle drop, and this XS uses a raffia-effect body with leather details. They are a comparison of actual configurations checked on 20 October 2026, not a sizing rule for every bag named Hug.5,6,7

Read the length against the height

East-West is 32 cm long but only 14.5 cm high; Soft L is 40 cm long and 30.5 cm high. Those proportions give the two silhouettes different rhythms even before colour enters the comparison. The East-West’s 23 cm handle drop also differs from the Soft L’s 16.5 cm. Handle drop is the clearance beneath the handle, not the bag’s height or a guarantee that it fits over your winter coat. Try that combination rather than inferring it from the word “shoulder”.5,6

The XS introduces a second distinction: material. “Raffia-effect” describes the appearance of the fibre in this reference, not a licence to rename it natural raffia. Its unlined interior and reinforced leather base are also different from assuming a miniature version of either leather bag. A shared folding gesture can hold a family together while its interiors and carrying arrangements change.7

Bring the objects that must go inside

  1. Compare the opening as well as the outer dimensions; a rectangular item must pass through the actual mouth of the bag.
  2. Place your usual essentials in the specific version, then close its flap, buckles or zip without forcing it.
  3. Try the handle over the clothing you expect to wear; on the XS, check the removable strap and its attachment points.
  4. Keep the product code in your notes so a different material or season is not mistaken for the same configuration.
