Giorgio Armani

Italian designer and entrepreneur Giorgio Armani (1934–2025) founded his Milan company with Sergio Galeotti in 1975. His softer approach to tailoring and a career documented by ARMANI / Archivio connect his work to fashion and cinema.

A life across two cities

Born in Piacenza in 1934, Giorgio Armani died in Milan in 2025. The two cities frame a career that began in Milanese retail and grew into one of the most recognizable names in Italian fashion.1,2

From retail to fashion

Armani first worked at La Rinascente in Milan, then with Nino Cerruti. Those years brought him from the selling floor into clothing design before he put his own name on a company.1

A Milan venture, 1975

In 1975 Armani and Sergio Galeotti founded the company bearing his name in Milan. The venture gave the designer a base for the collections through which his approach to dress would reach an international audience.1,3,4
