Tod’s places the Gommino at the centre of a design language that students have reinterpreted through new soles, outerwear and story-led collections. The 2020 Tod’s Academy and Central Saint Martins programme connected 35 emerging designers with craft-focused mentorship.

The Gommino as a house signature

Tod’s identifies the Gommino loafer among the brand’s iconic pieces. Its continued presence in the house’s creative education is one way the design moves from product recognition into a vocabulary that students can reinterpret.1

A workshop for new points of view

In 2020, Tod’s Academy and Central Saint Martins brought 35 emerging designers into a project focused on craft and reinterpretation. The programme paired participants with 26 fashion professionals as mentors. Tod’s describes the Academy as a laboratory for new talent and creative projects; the Legacy brief centred on the D-Bag and Gommino.1

Rethinking the sole

For his Modularity project, Luke Derrick used the Gommino as a starting point to consider how the shoe is worn. The Academy describes his proposal as a new sole intended to reflect contemporary use, shifting attention from a fixed driving-shoe identity to a form that could adapt to its wearer’s habits.2
