Loro Piana: from Quarona textiles to fine fibres

The Loro Piana family traded wool fabrics before Pietro Loro Piana established Ing. Loro Piana & C. in Quarona in 1924. The house later extended its textile expertise into finished clothing, while cashmere, Merino wool and vicuña remained distinct parts of its material vocabulary.

A textile story rooted in Quarona

The Loro Piana family traded wool fabrics in the nineteenth century, then moved into manufacturing. In 1924 Pietro Loro Piana established Ing. Loro Piana & C. in Quarona, Valsesia, turning that longer family trade into a named company.1,2,3

From cloth to finished pieces

Textiles came first. Loro Piana’s account follows the family from wool trading into clothmaking; in the 1980s the company launched a Luxury Goods Division for finished products. Garments and accessories grew out of a business initially known for its fabrics.1,2,3

Cashmere has a place-specific first journey

Cashmere is the fine underfleece of the Capra hircus goat. Loro Piana describes fibre from Mongolia and Inner Mongolia being sorted, washed and dehaired at its Ulaanbaatar facility before shipment to Italy for further work. The route gives the finished fibre a history across several places and stages.4
