The story
Vieste whitens a headland at the tip of the Gargano, with the monolith of Pizzomunno standing guard over its beach. Boats leave the harbor for a coast drilled with sea caves and arches.

Vieste’s historic centre is an upper, medieval urban district, not a single monument or the whole municipality. The Gargano National Park describes it as occupying the highest part of the city, with the Castle and Co-cathedral as distinct nearby landmarks.1
The Park characterises the district through narrow streets, old houses with small low entrances, steep internal stairways and small buttress arches between houses. These are fabric observations, not a promise of step-free movement, universal access or entry into private homes.1
The historic district faces the Ripa and reaches toward the San Francesco point, according to the Park. Its setting belongs to the wider rocky, cliffed Gargano coast described in the regional landscape plan. This supports a land-and-sea relationship, not a claim about safe viewpoints, public routes or current coastal conditions.1,2
The Co-cathedral and Chianca Amara must remain separate records within the district. The municipal Cathedral page dates the church’s construction to the second half of the eleventh century and records later change; the City identifies Chianca Amara as a distinct historic monument in the historic city. Neither source turns the whole old town into one church or one memorial narrative.3,4
