From Passo Pordoi a cable car lifts you in a few minutes to 2,950 meters, onto the stony plateau of Sass Pordoi, the Terrazza delle Dolomiti on the Sella massif. From the summit station the view sweeps across the Marmolada, the Dolomites’ highest peak with its glacier, and around to the Sella towers and the valleys of Fassa and Arabba.

There is a rifugio at the top, and marked trails cross the plateau toward the Rifugio Boè. It is high-alpine scenery with almost no effort: the ride does the climbing, and the walk is the choice you make once you are up there.

Four things worth finding

If you see nothing else, see these.

  1. The Terrace of the Dolomites

A wide stony plateau with sheer drops on three sides, which is why the view feels like a balcony. The summit plateau at 2,950 meters

  2. The Marmolada

The highest peak of the Dolomites and its glacier, seen across the valley.Looking south from the plateau

  3. Rifugio Maria

The mountain hut on the plateau, a place to sit with the panorama in front of you.At the summit, next to the cable car station

  4. The trail to Forcella Pordoi and Piz Boè

A marked trail leads toward Rifugio Boè and, beyond it, Piz Boè at 3,151 meters.Across the plateau

Getting there
The lower station is at Passo Pordoi, on the road linking Canazei and Arabba, with paid parking at the pass. In season, public buses serve the pass from Canazei and Arabba; check fassa.com for current services.

Adult round-trip cable car ticket €32 in summer (€30 in winter); one way €18, useful if you plan to walk down. Junior fares are lower. The lift runs only in the summer and winter seasons. Last updated May 2026. Prices change, so check the official site before you go.

Walk out onto the plateau beyond the summit station: the crowd stays at the terrace, and the view of the Marmolada opens fully a short distance away. Bring a windproof layer, as it is much colder than at the pass.
