Ferruccio Lamborghini

Ferruccio Lamborghini (1916–1993), Italian industrial entrepreneur, built businesses in tractors and heating before founding Automobili Lamborghini in 1963. The company’s early cars, including the Miura, were made by teams of engineers, designers and coachbuilders.

A mechanic’s beginnings

Ferruccio Lamborghini (1916–1993) was an Italian industrial entrepreneur. After vocational training and workshop experience, he worked on vehicle maintenance during the war; his later ventures ranged from tractors and heating systems to cars.1,2

From repair work to tractors

After returning to Italy in 1946, Lamborghini set out to build agricultural tractors. In 1947 he used surplus military material to make the Carioca, presented in Cento the following February. The work turned mechanical knowledge into an industrial product for farms in the postwar period.1

More than one industrial venture

After his agricultural-machinery business was established, Lamborghini entered heating and cooling in the 1950s. Automobili Lamborghini followed in 1963, after two industrial ventures had already shaped his career.3,4
