Friuli’s regional agriculture journal distinguishes the older Friulana variety from Muscovy duck.

Its historical account describes Muscovy, Pekin and Rouen ducks entering Friuli’s farmyards after World War I. Muscovy ducks later replaced or were crossed with earlier populations. The geographic description anatra muta friulana should not be confused with the older Friulana variety.
