Valentino

Maison Valentino took shape between a Rome atelier opened in 1959 and its formal foundation a year later. Early Haute Couture milestones at Florence’s Sala Bianca, the 1968 White Collection and a Paris ready-to-wear presentation in 1975 trace a house with a Roman beginning and an international couture calendar.

An atelier in Rome

In 1959 Valentino Garavani opened his first atelier on Via Condotti in Rome and presented Ibis, his first Haute Couture collection. The address and collection mark the designer’s early work as the foundation from which Maison Valentino would emerge the following year.1,2

The Maison takes shape

Maison Valentino was founded in 1960 by Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti. The house describes their partnership as a meeting of Garavani’s creative vision and Giammetti’s strategic approach. Their collaboration gave the Roman atelier an enduring fashion-house identity.1,2

International recognition at Sala Bianca

In 1962 Valentino presented a Haute Couture collection at the Sala Bianca of Florence’s Palazzo Pitti. The house’s history describes the occasion as international recognition for the young Roman fashion house.1,2
