Neptune's Grotto opens at the foot of the 110-meter cliffs of Capo Caccia, west of Alghero, in halls of stalactites and stalagmites around a lake of salt water. Half the event is getting there.

You can descend the Escala del Cabirol, the Goat's Stairway of 654 steps cut into the rock face above the open sea, or arrive by boat from Alghero harbor and step straight onto the landing. A guided walk leads through the chambers, so leave time for the stairs or the boat on top of the visit itself.

Getting there
By road from Alghero to the Capo Caccia car park and the top of the stairway, or by the public ARST bus to Capo Caccia. In the busy months a shuttle runs from the Casa Gioiosa car park. The alternative is a boat from Alghero harbor.
Accessibility
The 654-step Escala del Cabirol is not step-free. Boat and shuttle-bus arrivals avoid the descent and suit families and older visitors; disabled visitors enter free, so contact Alghero Experience when booking to arrange support.

Ages 6 to 17, students to 26 and Alghero residents €10; groups of 25 or more €12. Free for under-6s and disabled visitors with a carer. The ticket does not include the shuttle bus or the boat. Last updated September 2026. Prices change, so check the official site before you go.

Arrive at the Escala meeting point well before your slot, since late arrivals lose the reservation. Book your slot online first; the ticket office is not always open on site.

Before you book

How long should you spend at Neptune’s Grotto?

About two hours, counting the stairs or the boat plus the guided walk. The cave tour itself is shorter.

Do you need to book Neptune’s Grotto?

Yes for visits by land, where booking a time slot is always mandatory. Boat trips depend on sea conditions.

Should you take the stairs or the boat?

The 654 steps are manageable but tiring, especially on the way back up. The boat is easier but depends on calm seas; shoulder seasons are gentler.
