Suvereto is a DOCG denomination for red wines in Suvereto, Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah classes. The grape-production zone covers quality-suitable land in the entire municipality of Suvereto, Province of Livorno. Standard Suvereto may use Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah alone or together, with up to 15% other eligible non-aromatic Tuscan red grapes; each named varietal class is 100% of its named grape. The specification has distinct release and Riserva conditions.

Suvereto is a DOCG denomination reserved for red wines in the Suvereto, Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah classes.^1,2

The standard Suvereto class permits Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah alone or together, up to 100%, with up to 15% eligible non-aromatic red grapes from Tuscany. Each named varietal class is 100% of its named grape.²

The grape-production zone lies in the Province of Livorno and comprises the quality-suitable land of the entire administrative municipality of Suvereto. Vinification and ageing take place within that production zone.²

The listed Suvereto wines may not be released before 1 May of the second year after the grape-production year. Riserva may not be released before 1 May of the third year and requires yields of 8 tonnes per hectare, at least 13% natural alcohol, and at least 24 months of ageing from 1 November of the grape-production year, including 12 months in wood and 6 months in bottle.²
