The story

What you're tasting

Carmignano is a distinct DOCG designation with an optional Riserva mention. Its specification regulates grape composition, a legally delimited hill-zone, and class-specific maturation and release. Producer, vintage and sensory guidance need separately sourced research.

Carmignano is governed by a current protected-denomination specification. Claims about earlier legal history, foreign influence or unbroken producer tradition require independent historical evidence.

The making

How it's made

The specification requires at least 50% Sangiovese and 10–20% Cabernet Franc and/or Cabernet Sauvignon, with other defined limits. Standard and Riserva have different minimum wood-ageing and release thresholds. Production-zone geometry requires separate validation.

Carmignano DOCG is distinct from the Carmignano municipality, Barco Reale di Carmignano DOC and Vin Santo di Carmignano DOC.
