La storia

Che cosa stai assaggiando

Made from Corvina (35-80%), Rondinella (10-40%), and optionally Molinara or other local grapes. Requires minimum 12 months aging. More structured and complex than basic Bardolino, with cherry, almond, and herbal notes.

Bardolino Superiore's history begins in the Bardolino area of Veneto, on the shores of Lake Garda, where the blend of Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara has been practiced for centuries. The region's unique terroir—morainic and calcareous soils, Mediterranean climate moderated by Lake Garda, and hilly terrain—creates wines with distinctive elegance and freshness. The appellation received formal recognition in 1968 as DOC, then elevation to DOCG in 2001 for the Superiore designation, codifying the production zone in the Bardolino area and quality standards. Bardolino Superiore's distinctive character comes from the region's unique terroir—morainic and calcareous soils with Lake Garda's moderating influence—which creates wines with elegance and freshness. The wine's international reputation grew in the 2000s-2010s, when it became recognized as one of Veneto's finest reds, celebrated for its elegance and quality. Today, Bardolino Superiore represents one of Veneto's most distinctive red wines, with the wine's elegance and freshness making it perfect for refined cuisine.

La lavorazione

Come si fa

Bardolino Superiore production follows DOCG regulations. The wine must contain minimum 35-80% Corvina Veronese, 10-40% Rondinella, and up to 20% Molinara and other authorized varieties. Harvest typically occurs in late September to early October, when grapes have achieved optimal ripeness. The grapes are harvested by hand, then destemmed and crushed before transfer to fermentation vessels. Fermentation occurs at controlled temperatures (22-26°C) with maceration on skins for 8-12 days, preserving freshness and elegance. The wine must age minimum 1 year before release, with some producers aging longer for complexity. Traditional producers favor large Slavonian oak botti, while modernists may use stainless steel or French barriques. The wine must achieve minimum 12% alcohol and pass quality controls. The wine's elegance and freshness come from the region's unique terroir—morainic and calcareous soils with Lake Garda's moderating influence—which creates wines with distinctive character.

Bardolino Superiore represents Veneto's winemaking tradition, a wine that demonstrates the region's capacity for producing elegant, fresh reds. In Veneto homes and restaurants, Bardolino Superiore flows at refined meals, its elegance and freshness making it perfect for lighter cuisine. For Veneto residents, Bardolino Superiore represents the region's unique terroir, a wine that honors the Corvina blend tradition while expressing Lake Garda's distinctive character.
